I Wanted to Learn Computers

by Angel Khoun

I wanted to learn computers. I didn't know how to use a computer at all. And I wanted to learn computers so I would know how to use it. But it was hard for me to find a place to learn computers. At some places to learn computers, it cost too much for me to pay. That's why I never got a chance to learn any computer skills.

One day I found out about the St, Julie Asian Center, which I had seen on TV and there was a telephone number to call. The next day I called St. Julie, I talked to Sister Janet who told me about the program here at St. Julie, there are ESL classes and learn computer, and cost only $15.00 for the computer class. It sounded great! I was interested in learning computers at St. Julie I asked the address where I could come to enroll to learn computers. Then I got an address.

I came to meet Sister Janet, who I had called to talk with. I registered to learn and I had paid $15.00. She told me that I had to wait for when there was space available, then should call me in. She took me to visit the computer class and meet computer teachers. I met the computer teacher, Kathy. She was very happy to have me in computer class. She took me in right away, I started my computer class on the day I went to register. I told teacher Kathy, I didn't know any computer basics at all yet. I didn't now computer typing or how to work with the computer. She said "Don't you worry, I am her to help you learn computer." She was a wonderful person and taught me a lot about how to use computers. I learned computers two days a week and for one hour each visit. Since, I learned computer, I had learned a lot and understand very well.

When I wen to learn computers at St. Julie, I wanted to learn ESL, also. I asked "Janet can I learn the high level ESL?" Janet answered, "Of course, You English is very god." She put me on the waiting list. I waited a few months before I started my ESL class with teacher Princess Amy.

Teacher Amy is nice and teaches excellent English. I loved to learn more English. Every day I come to school to learn. I have learned a lot. I have met many Cambodians., Laos, Laotians, Vietnamese, Chinese and Koreans. I like all the teachers who work hard to all the students. I like everyone here. I loved to learn my computer and grammar at St. Julie. It is close to my house. Easy for me to come here. They have a daycare to help some mothers who come to learn ESL. They have a meeting one time a week and sometimes there are special guests who come to talk to us about their program. The teachers allow all the student to do their cultural celebrations like New Year.

During holidays the teachers have a lot of gifts to give everybody. Especially on Christmas, the teachers give a lot of beautiful gifts to students and their families. Many things are very interesting at the St. Julie Asian Center. The teachers want everybody to love and help one another. Everybody loves the teachers and the teachers love everybody. I very much like it and am happy here at St. Julie.
