II.   Lessons Learned: An Overview of Baisc Skills Curriculum

  • Pathfinders has expanded upon LTC's basic skill curriculum and added more meat to the outline. A certificate indicates the completion of the program.
  • Marsha Davidson is starting another class and the idea that this class will form the basis of qualifying for computers in the recycling / refurbishing program (see item V.)
  • Students are given pre and post skill inventories to determine progress
  • The basic skill standards can be mapped against this and other basic skills curricula to determine base knowledge.
  • Kevin is working out project-based, self-paced training at New Beginnings that will mesh into this systems as well

III. Demonstration: Using Groove for Distance Learning

  • Instead of modelling the distance learning application, the group discussed the current use of Groove for Consortium use
  • Chris did a brief tour of the interface and capabilities
  • The main thrust of the discussion revolved around making the invite process work and the software's tendency to crash

IV. Overview: Recycling and Refurbishing Process

  • David Crist now has about 12 systems pulled together @ the distribution center (321 Central Street)
  • The hours of the Center's operation are 1-5pm M-F
  • David is working with Goodwill to trade off parts with labor
  • A process to get a system is being worked out - interested party submits paperwork that they are taking a eligibility class or providing volunteer hours (i.e. basic skills, pc repair, any certified class), paperwork goes to Recycling program and they begin building system. Once "customer" finishes class / volunteer work - center staff signs off on it, "customer" can now go pick up system at distribution center
  • Process is not finalized but this is basic overview of it.

V.  Touchbase: Action Group Updates
