  2. Announcements
  • Paul is no longer at Middlesex Shelter. Pathfinders will be conducting computer training component
  • New Beginnings will be offering a Budgeting Seminar in 3 parts (see calendar section on the Consortium website)
  • Center for Family, Work and Community will be hosting Ken Kowoski from LINCT to speak on community recycling projects
  • Meeting for those organizations sponsoring a VISTA will be on August 10th in Boston at 10 Causway Street - Rm 473 in the Fleet Center - All host organizations should send a representative
  • LTC's new member orientation will be August 2nd, 1-4pm or 6-9pm
  • Somerville Art Beat featuring Faces of Tomorrow - a youth digital art project - weekend of July 22nd
  • Trellix will be offering free web page design workshops in their Waltham offices. Interested persons should email Felicia at consortium@ltc.org
  1. New Beginnings: An Overview
  • Programs center around personal goal setting and are open to the general public
  • Basic computer training, self-paced tutorials w/ facilitation. Also have tutorials
  • This program is especially good at skill development but weak in concept building. Have begun to over short seminars to deal with this area.
  • Self-paced program developed to accommodate varied schedules
  • Module areas focus on Budgeting, Back-to-school, home-buying, and job search (for the most part)
  • Public access hours are 7 days a week (M-Th 9-9, Fri 9-5, Sa 10-5 and Su 1-9)
  • Help folks with action plans and finding resources
  1. CTCNet Conference Reports

Discussions on a number of topics occurred here:

  • New open access challenges on the policy level
  • Digital Divide issues that stretched beyond tools and covered connectivity and content divides
  • Art and project-based education
  • Recylcling programs
  • Learning objectives
  1. Dept. of Ed. And VISTA Updates
  • DoE partners almost ready to sign contracts. Equipment purchasing and setup should occur during August. With programs starting in the Fall
  • VISTA host agencies have submitted job descriptions and Felicia is collecting applications from individuals. The Consortium will have one overall-VISTA to assist with tech planning and work with Eduardo on a wide area network. If we can not recruit enough VISTAs we will look to shopping folks around.

  • Recycling (current interest from Dan Toomey, Gregg Croteau, Samkhan Khoen and others) - Dan Toomey acting organizer
  • Community information (current interest from Anthon Gunawan, Maryellen Maclaney, Jane Benfrey and others) - Maryellen acting organizer
  • Education and Training (current interest form Kevin Mullen, Frank Allaby, Felicia Sullivan, and others) - Kevin Mullen acting organizer
  • Technology Planning and Implementatino (current interest from Eduardo Czarnobai, Dan MacNeil, and others) - Eduardo Czarnobai organizer
  • If you are interested in participating in a working group, contact the organizer. Organizers should feel free to convene informal meetings on a regular basis.
