Directions to Lowell Telecommunications Corporation, our lead agency

Directions to the UMass Lowell lab where our web development activities take place

Finding LTC

Lowell Telecommunications Corporation (LTC) is the lead agency of the Lowell Community Technology Consortium. LTC provides a range of administrative and human resource recruitment services for the Consortium, and its downtown location acts as the physical headquarters for all Consortium mail and administration.

LTC is across the street from a pet store and a bar called the Dubliner. It is in the same building complex as the Park Cafe and the national park visitor center. There is a small park next door with a sculpture of mill girls. Directions from several starting points:

If you are driving from Boston (approximately 45 minutes):
  1. Take 93 N.
  2. Exit 93 at 495 (Lowell - Not Lawrence).
  3. Exit 495 at Route 3 then almost immediately bear right and exit at Lowell Connector.
  4. Follow Lowell Connector and take Thorndike Street exit (this exit will put you on Thorndike Street going in the correct direction).
  5. You will go through two sets of lights, under an overpass, and bend right through another set of lights.
  6. At the next (fourth) set of lights turn right into the Lowell National Historic Park Visitor Center's Lot (you may park anywhere here).
  7. Walking, leave the parking lot by taking a set of stairs. These lead under a building to a courtyard. Go straight though the courtyard to the street. This is Market Street.
  8. Turn right and go to the end of the building and turn right. LTC's first floor entrance is there.
If you are taking public transportation from Boston (approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes):
  1. Take the Lowell Line from North Station (make sure to check with MBTA about correct departure times).
  2. Lowell is the last stop on this line.
  3. Once you arrive in Lowell, take a Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA) Downtown Shuttle. This Bus will drop you off right at our building. Indicate that you want to be dropped off at the Market Mill Buildings / Lowell National Historic Park Visitor Center.
  4. When you get off the bus you will see a giant archway.
  5. Turn left and go to the end of the building and turn right. LTC's first floor entrance is there.
  6. If you wish to walk from the train station, turn left on Thorndike Street. Be careful walking through the overpass/rotary complex. Thorndike Street bends right through traffic lights and becomes Dutton Street. Follow Dutton for two more lights, and turn right onto Market Street across from Haffner's gas station. LTC's first floor entrance is at the far end of the first building on the right.

Finding the UMass Lowell Lab

We are located in Room 403 on the 4th floor of the Engineering Building on the North Campus of UMass Lowell. We are building #3 on the map

  1. Get on the Lowell Connector. This is exit 35C off I-495, exit 30B off Route 3 North, and exit 30A off Route 3 South. (WARNING: Due to recent Route 3 construction, these exit numbers may be different. Follow detour signs to the Lowell Connector.)
  2. Follow the Lowell Connector until it ends (about 4 miles) and take a left onto Gorham St.
  3. Follow Gorham St. as it becomes Central St.
  4. Go left on Merrimack St. (a T-intersection...you should be in downtown Lowell by now)
  5. Follow Merrimack St. until it ends, and go right on Pawtucket St.
  6. Make a very quick left at the first light (University Ave. bridge). This will take you over the river.
  7. Go straight through the first light after the bridge.
  8. Go right on Riverside St., the next four-way stop.
  9. Go past a few University buildings on your right, then take a right into the BIG parking lot by the soccer fields. This is the Riverside Lot (#6 on UML's map). If the gate is down, press the buzzer and tell the cops that you are there for a meeting in Engineering Building room 403.
  10. Getting into the building can be tricky because outside doors are often locked. The Engineering Building connects to Ball Hall, and you can always get into Ball Hall through its basement entrance by the Campus Police Station. To find this entrance from the Riverside parking lot, walk through campus (toward University Ave). You'll cross a small staff-only parking lot and there will be large obvious signs for the Poilce Station. Enter here.
  11. Once inside Ball Hall, go to the third floor (NOT the fourth floor...the two buildings don't connect on the fourth floor). Walk to the left (southeast-ish), toward the Engineering Building, until the floor tile bordering the hallway goes from blue to red. Once you are walking on red floors, you are in the Engineering Building
  12. Once you are on the third floor of the Engineering Building, take any flight of stairs to the fourth floor and find room 403. On the outside of the door there is a red dot. On the inside of the door there are pictures of famous computer people.
